For many travelers, culinary tourism is an important aspect of traveling . For me it is also very important and I cannot imagine not to try all the local delicacies. If you are going to visit Poland, for sure you are wondering what is the most typical dish in polish cuisine. The answer is easy “PIEROGI”. Almost everyone knows it :)
What is PIEROGI? Pierogi is a tradional and very popular polish dish. It’s kind of dumplings stuffed with various fillings. If someone tries Pierogi, he falls in love with it. It is for sure first thing, the foreigners tries when arrive to Poland. Pierogi can be made salty or sweet. They can have different fillings for example the classic fillings such as: ruskie (Ruthenian-style) with quark, boiled potatoes, and sautee onions; artisan meat pierogi with minced pork or savory cabbage and mushrooms pierogi. The sweet pierogi you can fill with seasonal fruits or cottage cheese. The true is that you can fill it with everything you wish and like.

What ingredients do you need to prepare the best one? (this is a recipe for about 40 pierogi)
· 300 g of wheat flour
· pinch of salt
· 125 ml of boiling water
· 1 egg
· 20 g of butter
We have all the ingredients and what next?
First, you need to sift flour into a bowl and add salt. Put the butter in the boiled water, so the butter melts. Gradually pour everything into the flour, mixing everything with a spoon. Add egg and combine all the ingredients. Then, knead a smooth dough for about 7 – 8 minutes. Next, wrap in foil and leave for about 30 minutes. Divide dough into 4 pieces and then each one roll out.
After that, cut the wheels with a small glass, stretch them a little in the fingers, then overlay one spoon of stuffing. Fold in half and stick the edges carefully.
How to cook pierogi?
In a large saucepan boil salted water and as it will boil, put the first batch of pierogi. After boiling, reduce the fire to medium and cook Pierogi for about 2 minutes from the time they reach the surface of the water. The cooking time depends on the thickness of the dough.
